Shaping the Future of Mobility Together

Global trends like the automation and electrification of transport in connection with decarbonization and urbanization have had a noticeable impact on the automotive industry in the recent years. The classic car is becoming less important and the mobility mix is moving into the spotlight. Drive types are changing sustainably and the connectivity of vehicles and their surroundings is constantly increasing. In addition to technological challenges, the transformation also creates regulatory, organizational and social challenges that can't be solved in theory alone. A holistic view of the effects in the real context is required.

This is where automotiveland.nrw is actively involved in transformation projects. Together with partners from industry, research and administration, the cluster creates important impulses for the automotive industry in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Markets for hydrogen, fuel cells and fuel cell vehicles are emerging worldwide. The transformation hub cH2ance addresses these trends and supports companies in adapting to new value chains in hydrogen mobility.

Nationwide Project Network

Automotiveland.nrw is part of the nationwide project network of hydrogen innovation clusters, research institutions as well as automotive and supplier networks. Many skills, products and processes that already exist in the supplier industry can be adopted with a view to hydrogen mobility. However, they must be newly developed and qualified under hydrogen conditions.

Exchange platform for hydrogen mobility

This is where the transformation hub cH2ance comes in: The supplier industry needs a detailed overview of the overall system of fuel-electric vehicles, technical interfaces as well as norms and standards. The hub examines and answers these hydrogen specific questions and connects relevant players and knowledge carriers. cH2ance functions primarily as a transfer platform. Technology scouting, factsheets on the state of the art, maturity analyses and roadmaps in conjunction with workshops, congresses and matchmaking events promote the targeted transfer of technology and knowledge.

Funded by the future fund for the automotive industry

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) as part of the funding announcement “Development and implementation of transformation hubs to support transformation processes in value chains in the automotive industry” in the project period from 2022 to 2025.

4.1 million euros for the transformation of the automotive industry in the "Bergisch" region

Automotiveland.nrw and the Bergische Struktur und Förderungsgesellschaft (Bergische Gesellschaft) have successfully submitted a funding application to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) under the lead of the University of Wuppertal.

Funding request “Transformation strategies for regions in the vehicle and supplier industry”

The BMWK is funding the TRAIBER.NRW project (Transformation of the automotive industry in the “Bergisch” region) with 4.1 million euros until the middle of 2025 as part of the funding announcement “Transformation strategies for regions in the automotive and supplier industry”.

The project region is made up of the cities of Wuppertal, Remscheid, Solingen and Düsseldorf as well as the Ennepe-Ruhr district, the Mettmann district, the Rhine district of Neuss and the Oberbergischer Kreis hinge region.

Competitiveness of automotive suppliers

The aim of the project is to create a regional transformation strategy and develop support tools to ensure the competitiveness of automotive suppliers in the "Bergisch" region. Based on a regional economic study that analyzes the current situation of the supplier industry in the region, concrete transformation paths will be developed and tested together with the companies. The project is part of the German government's strategy to transform the German automotive industry.
