On July 8, 2025, automotiveland.nrw and the PEM Chair at RWTH Aachen University jointly hosted a practical seminar on the dismantling and analysis of modern electric drives.
At the Ebbtron event location, participants gained hands-on insights into the design, manufacture, and functioning of permanent magnet electric motors from leading manufacturers. The aim was to combine theoretical discourse on the transformation of drive technology with concrete practical know-how.

Understanding electric motors – components, concepts, challenges
The workshop focused on:
- the dismantling of different drive concepts,
- comparison of different designs and manufacturing approaches,
- as well as discussing current challenges in the production and assembly of modern electric motors.
The event was led by Yazan Bajah and David Drexler (PEM, RWTH Aachen University) with a strong practical focus and clear technical depth. Participants were able to actively engage, ask questions, and draw concrete conclusions for their business practices.
Support from transformation hubs
The seminar was part of the Transformation Hub cH₂ance and Transformation Hub Scale-up E-Drive projects funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK). Both hubs support companies on their journey through the drive and energy transition – with knowledge transfer, networks, and concrete practical offerings.
Conclusion: Experience tangible transformation
The transformation of the automotive industry is often discussed in abstract terms. Events such as this seminar demonstrate that understanding comes from practical experience. Only those who experience and analyze technology themselves can make informed decisions about innovation and production.
